Happy New Year!
During this month the children will be making their New Year's Resolutions and trying to keep their promise to improve themselves in certain areas.
The Japanese Parents came to visit our class and gave a wonderful presentation about the New Year's celebration in Japan. The parents discussed their customs and culture during the three day celebration. Children played a Japanese game and the parents gave each of them an origami top and some chocolate. We learned a lot about the Japanese culture. Thank you, parents!
The Korean parents will be giving their presentation later in the month. We are all looking forward to learning about the Korean culture too!
The children will begin learning how to write in cursive(script). The letters will be slowly introduced and by June they should be writing their homework in script.
We will be learning about the contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King and do a couple of activities to encourage the theme of peace.
We are using the Chrome books to research authors such as Jack Prelutsky and Tomie dePaola. We will also be reading their books and poems in class.
The children were given their report cards on Tuesday. Please sign the envelope and return it to school on Monday. (December 1)
This month parents are invited to come into the classroom to share their holiday customs and traditions to the class. In the past, the Korean, the Japanese, and the Chinese parents have come into the classroom as a separate group and discussed their holiday. They also planned an art activity, a game, or brought in a food that is eaten during this time of the year. I hope that all parents come to our classroom and read a story or share something about your holiday. The children love seeing their parents in class and they learn so much about other cultures. Please join in our celebration. I will be sending a letter home in the beginning of December for you to fill out. Hope to see you then!
This month we are thankful for many things: our family, our friends, our pets, our homes, our good health, and all of the freedoms that we have in America.
The second graders celebrated Thanksgiving with a Thanksgiving Breakfast. Each child brought in a donation for our celebration . We enjoyed sharing breakfast together as friends.
Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with your family and friends!
Mrs. Singer is collecting class party money for our 5-6 Second grade parties. Please send in $15.00 in cash by Friday, October 24, in an envelope. We will have our Halloween party on Oct. 31 at 2:00-3:00PM.
In the beginning of October the children attended a Firefighter Assembly with a magician. He captured their attention with his tricks while they learned some safety tips.
We are busy writing descriptive paragraphs in Writing. The children are working with their buddies to improve and edit their paragraphs. They are focusing on great lead sentences to capture the audience.
Science class has been fun. The children are working with solids and identifying properties for each solid. They are also working with their October buddy on this project.
Please continue to have your child practice their typing skills for the third grade PARCC test. The more they practice, the easier the test will be for them.
Welcome to Second Grade
Welcome to second grade at School #3: "The Place to Be!" My name is Mrs. Eiman and I will be teaching your child this year. Second grade will be a year full of learning, making new friends, doing exciting science experiments, learning cursive, writing creative stories and becoming a very responsible student. We will have fun working together as a team, working with a buddy, or doing activities independently.
Your child will have homework on Monday thru Thursday . It will be located in their Homework Notebook. Homework will consist of Spelling, Math, Reading, and other activities that are taught in class. A parent should sign their name in their child's Homework Notebook and their Reading Log.
